Jessica bleeds black and gold, born and raised in the Steel City, Pittsburgh, PA. She has a background in both Materials Science Engineering from Carnegie Mellon and Broadcast Operations and Engineering from NBCUniversal, and always had a passion for sport. After an eight-and-a-half year career in Broadcast, she carefully crafted a transition to follow her passion in both running and coaching.

Jessica's running resume spans the distance between the length of a triple jump runway to the Vermont 100 miler (and beyond). Her first passion was track and field where she spent 9 years as a triple jumper and has since transitioned to the world of ultrarunning, completing 18 ultra marathons and counting since 2012, including five 100 mile races and was the first female to finish the inaugural Speed Project Solo (a 300+ mile multi-day race from LA to Vegas).

She currently coaches for Nike Run Club, inspiring and challenging those running with NRC since Fall 2012. She also coaches for Brooklyn Track Club and founded Brooklyn Trail Club. She is RRCA certified and has coached first time runners, influencers, ultra marathons, and high profile athletes like Cynthia Erivo to her first Half Marathon (and everything in between).

Luckily for me, Woods is an expert. Whatever query I had, she always had the answer. And I had many. Her quick, detailed, and accurate answers were vital, but even more valuable was the security I gained from them.

Coach Woods has played an instrumental role in helping me become a stronger runner both mentally and physically by challenging me to push myself out of my comfort zone. She coached me to a BQ marathon time in my first attempt and coached me through my first trail ultra-marathon. It is because of her that I have the confidence to set faster marathon time goals and longer distance trail ultras today.

Jes’ holistic and personal approach to coaching me helped make my training for my ultras (100k and 100 miles) manageable. I have never felt overwhelmed throughout my journey with her!

Coach Jes took me on 6 months post ACL surgery in hopes of training me for the Brooklyn Half Marathon. There were too many challenges to even count. But Jes guided me through the mileage increases, unexpected adjustments to the training plan, the very aggressive aches, and pains. She gave me the confidence to commit to the miles and that is truly a testament to her coaching ability. Spoiler: I ran the half, finished it, had all the fun and most importantly had a great injury-free experience throughout the course of my training and after the race. I like to joke that she took me from couch to half marathon in 7 weeks, but in all honesty she did so much more than that. She’s an incredibly talented and knowledgeable coach and runner. She understands her clients and their goals and makes their success her mission. Couldn’t recommend Coach Jes more.
10/10, an absolute legend.

My journey with Jes started in 2015 when I walked up to her at a Nike run and said “I want to run the 2016 NYC marathon and I can’t run a mile.” She looked back at me, smiled, and said “ok. Let’s do it.” And that’s been her attitude since.
In 2017 Jes coached me for the Chicago & NYC Marathons, which are only separated by 4 weeks, and in 2018 she trained me to back to back PRs at the Berlin and NYC marathon, 6 weeks later (NYC: 35 minute YOY improvement).

When I turned my sights to going sub 1:45 in a half marathon, Jes was there with a training program that was never boring, support when I was feeling down, and a steady hand when I needed to be refocused.  In 2019 I plan to ran a marathon in Scotland followed 2 weeks later by NYCm followed 2 weeks later by a 60K raceThere is no one I would trust more to coach me through two marathons and my first ultra in the span of 4 weeks than Jes Woods.
